ENGARDE’s attorneys contribute to World Bank’s research

ENGARDE’s attorneys Roman Ognevyuk (Partner), Pavlo Oliinyk (Senior Associate) and Dmytro Donenko (Senior Associate) have contributed to the World Bank’s research project titled “Enabling the Business of Agriculture 2016: Comparing regulatory good practices.”

The report aims at defining drawbacks in agricultural policies of participating states and at creating equitable access to agricultural value creation, as well as promotion of environments fostering entrepreneurship in the sphere of agriculture.

Development of agriculture and agricultural entrepreneurship proves to be very important for traditional societies. Their national economies rely on agricultural output heavily. And, ironically, they have less smart regulations in the sphere than the urbanized countries do. This is one of the findings of the report.
Development of proper agricultural policies and procedures all over the world becomes important not only for individual countries, but on the global scale as well. Global population is expected to grow from the current 7.3 billion to 9 billion in 2050. The demand for food is expected to rise by 20 percent over the next 15 years. Therefore, exporting countries like Ukraine have great growth prospects, on the one hand, and face big challenges of meeting the demand, on the other hand.

The results of the report have shown that Ukraine needs to improve access to finance and transport infrastructure for accelerating agricultural growth. Ukraine is among the top performing countries in the sphere of agricultural markets’ development.
